Who We Are
Bighorn Valley Health Center (BVHC) is a community-based, outpatient primary health care center, in the counties of Big Horn and Rosebud. We recognize that though health care begins by alleviating sickness, the journey to a true culture of health is achieved through the health of the whole person and the whole community. As a community health center, BVHC provides our primary care services to people of any age, ethnicity, income or insurance status.
Several years ago, with our health care system in a state of flux, a group of community members began wondering what we could do about things here in Big Horn County: could we figure out a different way of providing holistic primary care to the whole community? Out of those conversations, the Bighorn Valley Health Center was born.
The concept of the Bighorn Valley Health Center grew out of a belief embodied in FAMILY, Inc., recognizing that our ailing society can be restored to health only when we learn how to support the health development of all children and families-- physically, socially, emotionally, morally and economically. Along the way, we recognized that medical care to treat sickness is only a small part of the story. The journey towards “whole health” is much more complex — it includes providing jobs, transforming the physical landscape, and empowering people to take charge of their own health and the health of their community.
The Bighorn Valley Health Center (BVHC) was incorporated in 2010 with the goal of delivering comprehensive primary care to the underserved population of Big Horn County, Montana. But we aim to do much more than that. Our hope is to catalyze community transformation. We want to create a true community of health. As part of our ongoing commitment to whole health and to the underserved people of Montana, in 2015 we expanded our scope of service into Rosebud County, in the town of Ashland.
We feel that health is more than physical well-being. It transcends drugs, technology and even physicians. In fact, although personalized healthcare is one of our trademark goals, health is more than the individual. We believe a healthy community and a healthy individual are interdependent and inseparable. Our Bighorn Valley Model of Health includes everything that affects the ability of the community and individual to thrive. As a result of this directive, the standard for the services we provide is extremely high. A healthy community has access to medicine that not only cures, but also empowers.
